Cruiser Decks
Understanding Cruiser Decks
Cruiser decks take their design cues from the iconic skateboards of the 1970s. Much like those from that period, cruiser skateboard decks are distinct for their stylish forms and appealing graphics. Unlike many contemporary skateboard decks, cruiser decks are characterised by a more directional design, featuring a flat nose and a kicked-up tail. They typically exhibit either a mellow concave or none at all.
As implied by the name, cruiser decks are crafted for leisurely rides around town. Although executing basic tricks on a cruiser is feasible, the possibilities are limited because these decks are not purposed for stunts.
Choosing the Right Size Deck for Cruising
Choosing a size is essentially a matter of personal preference. Cruiser decks can range from 25 to 34 inches in length and 7.5 to 10 inches in width. Shorter decks are suited for younger and smaller riders, whereas mid-sized decks are versatile enough for riders of any age or skill level.
While cruiser decks share functionality with certain longboard decks, their smaller size offers an advantage, particularly useful for navigating busy urban environments. You might even consider a mini cruiser deck, which is approximately the size of a Penny Board.
