What to Choose: Inline Skates or Inline Speed Skates
Selecting the right type of rollerblades can enhance your enjoyment, help you progress faster, and improve your performance. Here's how to find the perfect pair of skates for you.
Different types of skates cater to various disciplines. We consulted speed skating world champion Felix Rijhen for some easy tips on “How to Choose the Right Skates”.
High/Medium Cuffs - Fast and Stable
Choosing the right boot is crucial! If you're not very experienced with inline skating, you should opt for a skate with a high/medium cuff that provides support and stability.
Experienced skaters and pro speed skaters use a low cuff boot, but it requires many hours on wheels to be skilled enough to benefit from it.
You might even be faster with a pair of medium/high cuff boots because you use less energy to stay stable and maintain the correct stance. This means you have more power to push.
Different Wheels for Different Purposes
If you want to get the most out of your skates, ask yourself, "What do I want to use my skates for?"
Planning longer trips or even a marathon? Then consider getting a pair of skates with 110mm-125mm wheels. They accelerate quickly, can reach higher speeds, and make it easy to maintain speed.
Do you want to cruise around the city with many sharp turns? Then consider 90mm-100mm wheels, which make it easier to perform fast maneuvers with a high level of control.
The Frame is Essential
Talking about the frame might seem a bit nerdy, but it is actually very important. If you are looking for something easier to maneuver and to make sharp turns around corners, go for a short frame.
If you are going for long distances or track, you should opt for a longer frame, as it offers more stability and allows you to go fast without getting wobbly.
