Cross country ski bindings serve to connect your skis to your boots and are sorted into three categories according to discipline: classic, skate, and backcountry. When selecting boots and bindings for cross country skiing, it is crucial to consider that boot soles vary depending on the model. As such, it is not guaranteed that all nordic ski bindings will be compatible with your boots.

Exploring the Varieties of Cross Country Ski Bindings

Various types of cross country ski bindings exist. The most prevalent system available today is the New Nordic Norm (NNN). It includes two types of bindings: standard NNN bindings suitable for skate and classic disciplines, and NNN BC, which caters to backcountry. Both versions feature two ridges on the binding plate.

Within the NNN category, you will discover products termed Turnamic, Prolink, and NIS. Essentially, these are brand-specific names for their respective models. It is crucial to acknowledge that all are compatible with the NNN system. With regard to NNN BC bindings, they are exclusively compatible with NNN BC boots.

An alternative system observed is the Salomon Nordic System (SNS). Although this older system is no longer in production, it was designed for classic and skating boots and features a single ridge. Consequently, the SNS system is incompatible with New Nordic Norm.

The most recent advancement is the Xplore BC system. Developed by Rottefella, it incorporates pin technology at the toe, designed to enhance stability and support. This system exclusively works with Xplore BC boots.
