Roller Skates / Quad Skates
What Are Roller Skates?
Commonly referred to as quad skates, roller skates are often regarded as the original skates by many enthusiasts. Equipped with four wheels — two in the front and two at the back — they are renowned for their stability, whether you are skating or simply standing still. Ideal for novices, roller skates offer impressive versatility. They're playful, perfect for dancing, and provide a completely different riding experience compared to inline skates.
There is an extensive range of skates available from which to choose. With options for indoor and outdoor use, they can feature either a hard or soft boot design.
Which Roller Skates Should I Choose?
The choice of roller skates varies, catering to the distinct disciplines of roller skating. Selecting the right pair of roller skates is determined by the kind of skating you prefer, be it disco, jam skating, or outdoor exercises. Many boots are suitable for skaters of all proficiency levels.
What distinguishes roller skates from other types of skates is the abundance of designs and styles. Some skaters are drawn to the retro appearance of roller skates, reminiscent of the 1970s disco era, while certain adult roller skates feature a lower boot, offering enhanced flexibility and movement.
Roller skate wheels are available in various sizes to complement different skating styles. For indoor roller skating, the wheels are typically smaller than those designed for outdoor use.
How Should Roller Skates Fit?
A proper fit for roller skates is snug, yet should still allow some movement and let you wiggle your toes. To maximise comfort and avoid any pain or discomfort, the boot should feel welcoming. Keep in mind that all boots require a break-in period and may fit differently based on the brand, so it is advisable to consult the particular skate's size guide.
