Skimboard Equipment
Necessary Gear for Skimboarding
Beyond a skimboard and a body of water, several additional items can enhance your skimboarding experience. Wax and traction pads are commonly added to skimboards to improve the grip for your feet. Skimboard bags provide an excellent way to transport your board to the beach or when travelling to the coast for a weekend getaway. While skimboards are smaller than surfboards, a bag equipped with straps makes them easier to carry and safeguards them against damage.
Are Traction Pads Essential for Skimboarding?
Traction pads offer significant grip and control for your feet while skimboarding. Some individuals opt for just using wax on the surface of the skimboard; however, for maximum grip, traction pads are considered essential. While wax offers a decent level of grip, traction pads are more durable and assist in providing a better sense of foot placement on the board.
Sunny days are ideal for skimboarding, but it is crucial to shield your skin from UV exposure by wearing Rash Guards. On colder days, wearing a wetsuit is highly recommended for an enjoyable experience.
