Snowboard Bindings
Snowboard Bindings Link You to the Board
Snowboard bindings channel the power from your legs to the snowboard, securing you safely while riding. They significantly affect the overall riding experience, making it crucial to find bindings that suit your riding style and board.
The key components of snowboard bindings include the highbacks, baseplates, and straps. Some bindings, such as the Step-On bindings, do not feature straps and are compatible only with specific snowboard boots.
Which Snowboard Bindings Should I Choose?
Your choice of bindings should align with your riding habits and skill level. Bindings are categorised according to riding styles: all-mountain, jib, and park. Generally, a medium flex is ideal for all-mountain riding and beginners. A softer flex is preferable for jib/park riders, while a harder flex suits more aggressive riders. Moreover, men's snowboard bindings tend to be stiffer and wider compared to women's snowboard bindings.
Another aspect to consider is the mounting system. Most brands manufacturing snowboard bindings produce snowboards compatible with the standard 4x4 or 2x4 systems. However, Burton snowboards utilise a two-screw "slider-channel" on most of their models (also referred to as EST) or the older 3D pattern.
Ensure you know which system your snowboard uses. Most bindings come with several different disks to accommodate the various mounting systems.
Are Snowboard Bindings Sized?
Snowboard bindings are generally offered in three sizes: small, medium, and large. However, these sizes aren't standardised and can differ between brands. The size of your snowboard bindings should match your snowboard boot size to secure your boot properly. Typically, binding sizes cover a range of shoe sizes, with size details available on each product's page.
If the straps don't fit perfectly when you unpack your new snowboard bindings, there's no need to worry – they are adjustable. The main consideration is that your snowboard boot fits within the snowboard's width and the heel cup.
