Skateboard hardware consists of the nuts and bolts essential for securing your trucks to the skateboard deck. It is easy to overlook these components, but they are a vital aspect of your setup. Regular maintenance of skate hardware is essential. For instance, ensure your nuts and bolts are tightly secured, as they naturally loosen over time, leading to your board swaying and potentially unbalancing you.

Determining the Appropriate Size of Skateboard Bolts

Selecting the correct size for your skateboard hardware is crucial. The hardware must extend through the deck and the truck baseplate, protruding enough to attach the locknut to the bolt. If the hardware is excessively long, it may prove challenging to tighten and might snag during grinds. Conversely, hardware that is too short can detach easily. Standard skateboard bolt lengths range from ⅞ of an inch to 1 inch for typical skate setups. However, if employing riser pads exceeding ⅛ of an inch, longer hardware could be necessary.

The Universality of Skateboard Hardware

Various brands produce skateboard nuts and bolts, which are often suitable for any skateboard. Most hardware designs utilise either the Phillips head or Allen-head style. Nonetheless, this choice will not affect your skating performance and largely depends on personal preference.

Additionally, it is advisable to opt for skate bolts and nuts specifically designed to withstand skateboarding demands. Ordinary hardware is often insufficiently robust for the forces acting on the board during skating.
