Skimboards: What Are They Made From?

Regarding skimboard materials, you can opt for foam or wood. Foam skimboards are lively, offer significant buoyancy, and are ideal for children and leisurely activities.

Due to their elasticity and ability to float on water, they are favoured by those skimmers who wish to ride the sea waves.

Wood skimboards are heavier than foam variants and are apt for flatland skimming. They have minimal buoyancy and are best used in shallow water. Skilled riders aiming to execute tricks on ramps and rails often select this type, as wood is more durable than foam.

Selecting the Correct Skimboard: Dimensions and Design

When purchasing a skimboard, consider your weight, height, and desired speed. A larger skimboard can support more weight, while advanced skimmers typically choose smaller boards for ease of handling and performing tricks. Novices and children might benefit from a larger board for better balance maintenance.

Design is influenced by the curvature of the nose and tail. Professional skimboards usually have sharper, more highly curved front and rear edges. Conversely, boards for beginners and youngsters feature gentler nose and tail curves for enhanced stability.
