How to Remove Pre-Wax from Your New Cross Country Skate Skis
Before you head out to the sunny cross country trails with your new pair of cross country skis, you need to ensure that you have removed the pre-wax from the base.
The good news is that it’s quite simple to remove the pre-wax yourself. Just follow these four steps:
- Remove all stickers placed on the skis by the manufacturer.
- Remove the wax in the groove in the middle of the base. It’s a good idea to use either a pencil groove scraper.
- Now it’s time to remove the glider wax. Use a plexiglass wax scraper. Make sure to move it in the direction from the tip of the ski to the tail. Ensure you’re not applying too much pressure on the ski when you scrape the wax off. Repeat this 3-6 times.
- The final step is to brush off the base of the ski. Once again, it’s important that you do this in the travel direction of the ski. For the best possible glide, ensure that the surface is totally clean, so the structure of the base is visible. Repeat this at least 3 times. You can use either a nylon brush or a combi brush.
