How to Assemble a Skateboard
In this guide, SkatePro team rider Hjalte demonstrates the process of assembling a skateboard.
The 8 Steps to Assembling a Skateboard
Required tools: A knife and a skate tool (9/16” kingpin socket, 1/2” axle nut socket, 3/8” hardware socket, Phillips screwdriver, and an allen wrench)
- Begin by applying the grip tape. Peel off its backing to expose the adhesive side, then carefully place it centred on the deck. Using the backing paper, firmly press down the grip tape onto the deck.
- Next, cut each corner of the grip tape, then outline the board's edges with a tool to guide the subsequent trimming. Afterwards, remove the excess tape along this line.
- Use the remaining grip tape to smooth the tape's edges, enhancing durability.
- Create openings for the bolts by piercing the eight marked points with a sharp tool (such as a slender allen key). From the underside, employ a Phillips screwdriver to widen these holes.
- Proceed to fit the trucks. Position the bolts through the pre-made holes and attach the trucks, securing the nuts with a skate tool.
- Place two bearings in each wheel. Press each bearing into position within the wheel by hand until it's nearly seated.
- Affix the wheels to the trucks and fasten the nuts with a skate tool. Avoid excessive tightening to prevent bearing damage.
- Enjoy the ride!
