Purchasing Axles for Scooters
Scooter axles differ in dimensions and shape based on brand and model. Improperly tuned axles can lead to unwanted noise and potential faults in the scooter.
Length
An axle or bolt's length is gauged in millimetres without the head (w/o head). This ensures you obtain the true length.
Choosing the Appropriate Axle Length
- For axles of type A used in a deck or fork, these should NOT extend beyond the frame or wall of the deck or fork.
- For type B axles used in a deck or fork, they must protrude 10 mm from the frame or wall. This extension is necessary for affixing the lock nut.
Mounting Pegs
- While fitting pegs, the axle needs to extend at least 10 mm plus the thickness or depth of the peg. A longer type B axle is generally preferred.
- Swapping between type A and B is an option.
Headtype
Various head types are depicted below. Ensure you have the appropriate tool size for securing the axle head.
Diameter
The typical diameter for most scooters is 8 mm, which is compatible with 8 mm bearings and spacers.
Axles are also available in diameters of 6 mm and 10 mm, among others. Off-road scooters often require 10 mm axles alongside special bearings.
Thread
The thread density will always align when purchasing a complete axle set with head and screw/nut.
