Purchasing Skateboard Bolts & Riser Pads
Is the use of riser pads necessary on a skateboard?
Riser pads serve to increase the gap between the deck and wheels, reducing the risk of wheel bites. However, for standard skateboard wheels up to 54 mm in diameter, you most likely won't require riser pads.
How can you select the appropriate skateboard bolt length?
When assembling your skateboard, determine the skateboard hardware bolts' length in relation to the riser pads' thickness. Generally, if fitting riser pads, a minimum of 1" skateboard bolts is recommended. Without any riser or shock pads, bolts should measure approximately 7/8“ – 1“.
Risers | Bolt length |
No riser | 7/8“ – 1“ bolts |
1/8“ riser pads | 1“ – 1 1/8“ bolts |
1/4“ riser pads | 1 1/4″ bolts |
1/2“ riser pads | 1 1/2″ bolts |
