At 14, he went pro, and by 16, he was among the world's top skateboarders. Throughout his 17-year career, he clinched over 70 competitions, including the X-Games on the vert ramp in 1995 and 1997. He also made history as the first skateboarder to land the “900”, which is two and a half mid-air turns!
We're talking about none other than the uncrowned king of skateboarding, Tony Hawk, also known as The Birdman.
Refused to let skateboarding die
Despite a life in the spotlight and a high income, skateboarding waned in the early 90s, causing Tony's income to plummet. While many pros switched to regular jobs, Tony Hawk refused to give up. Together with fellow pro-skateboarder Per Welinder, he invested heavily in creating the Birdhouse Skateboards brand. When skateboarding revived a few years later, Birdhouse was ready to soar.
Birdhouse Skateboards thrived, and the rest is history. Tony Hawk has since solidified his status as an icon in the skateboarding world.
Take a Birdhouse for a 900-spin?
We've just got the new line of skateboards from Birdhouse. The new completes are available in three series: Stage 1, Stage 2, and the top model - Stage 3.
The Stage 3 boards feature high-quality components, such as ABEC 7 bearings, durable and hard wheels (100A), and a 7-ply Canadian maple deck. While executing the “900” might still be challenging, the Stage 3 board from Birdhouse makes it a possibility. Practice, improve, and maybe you'll nail the “900” by the time you're 48, just like Tony Hawk in the video below.
New line of entry-level boards
In addition to Birdhouse Skateboards, Tony Hawk has also introduced his own entry-level signature boards under the name Tony Hawk Skateboards.
Tony Hawk Skateboards offer the perfect beginner setup, making them an excellent choice for dads who grew up following Tony Hawk's career and now want to introduce their kids to skateboarding.
The boards are available in the 180, 360, and 540 series, all featuring stunning designs and quality materials ideal for beginners. The wheels are relatively soft, making them easier to ride on rough surfaces. The bearings are highly durable and built to withstand a lot of wear and tear.
