Purchasing Elbow Protection
This guide is designed to assist you in selecting suitable elbow protection.
Hockey elbow pads serve to shield you against bruises and prevent broken bones if you fall or are struck by a stick.
These pads extend beyond just covering the elbows; they also offer protection to your upper arm and part of your forearm.
Selecting the Size of Hockey Elbow Pads
To determine your size, wear shoulder guards and gloves first. Measure the gap between the bottom of the shoulder pad and the glove's edge. It’s crucial that the elbow pad has an appropriate length. If too lengthy, it might interfere with the glove; if too short, a gap could appear between the pad and the glove.
Size options for elbow protection may differ among brands. Use this table to guide you in selecting an appropriate size based on your arm measurement and height.
Model | Measurement | Height (approx.) |
Child | 8" | < 4' |
Junior Small | 10" | 4' - 4' 6" |
Junior Medium | 11" | 4' 6" - 4' 10" |
Junior Large | 12" | 4' 10"- 5' 4" |
Senior XSmall | 12" | 4' 10"- 5' 7" |
Senior Small | 13" | 5' 5" - 6' |
Senior Medium | 14" | 5' 9" - 6' 4" |
Senior Large | 15" | > 6' |
Velcro straps allow for the majority of elbow pads to be resized, so they can be easily altered to fit an arm's specific size.
Elbow Pad Standards
High-quality elbow pads should provide unrestricted movement while safeguarding your arm in various positions. Proper padding (ideally gel-based) is essential for optimal protection.
