Race BMX Bikes
Understanding BMX Racing
Race BMX is an exhilarating and dynamic sport where the objective is to navigate a 300-400 m track as swiftly as possible. The track is custom-made for BMX racing, with each of the eight competitors needing to overcome jumps, bumps, and sharp bends. It involves a single lap, and each event typically concludes in under a minute.
Unlike other BMX styles, there are fewer tricks and stunts in racing; however, riders employ a technique known as pumping. This involves the rider using their arms and legs to build momentum and clear jumps.
Defining a BMX Race Bike
Race BMX bikes are crafted for high-speed performance and rapid acceleration. They are specifically intended for racing rather than performing stunts and tricks. Race bikes generally have thinner tyres than freestyle bikes, as they require less traction.
Additionally, these bikes are regarded as lightweight compared to their freestyle counterparts, being constructed from aluminium for enhanced resilience and sturdiness. A common feature is a wheel diameter of 20 inches.
Determining the Correct BMX Race Bike Size
Despite having a standard wheel diameter, BMX frames and tyres are available in various sizes. While the size is dependent on the specific model, BMX bikes range from Micro-mini to Pro XXL, with sizing based on frame dimensions.
Key to consider is your height; the taller you are, the longer the top tube (the top part of your frame) should be.
