BMX Pedals
Understanding BMX Pedals
Integral to your BMX arrangement, pedals play a crucial role. Numerous factors come into play when selecting the ideal pedals, such as material, dimensions, and pins.
A primary decision revolves around the material of your BMX bike pedals. While many materials are available, they are predominantly either metal or plastic. Plastic pedals tend to be lighter, more economical, and offer various colourful designs to personalise your arrangement. In contrast, metal pedals provide excellent grip and longevity but add extra weight.
Dimensions of BMX Pedals
BMX pedals are generally available in two dimensions: the 9/16 inch, common in modern BMX bikes, and the 1/2 inch, often found in children's BMX and older designs. These measurements refer to the diameter of the pedal axle. The appropriate size is determined by the type of crankset. A 9/16 inch accommodates 3-piece cranks, whereas a 1/2 inch caters to 1-piece cranks.
Selecting Superior BMX Pedals
Optimal BMX pedals are those that enhance your grip and boost performance. Ensuring adequate grip prevents slip-offs and protects your shins. Regular inspections of pedals are vital, as deterioration leads to reduced grip, potentially risking injuries to your shins.
Central to the pedal’s grip are the BMX pins. Pins amplify the pedal's grip, with many pedals allowing for replaceable pins that prolong their lifespan. Pin lengths vary; longer pins offer increased grip but might raise the risk of damaging footwear and shins.
