Skateboard Griptape
Skateboard Griptape Offers Grip and Flair
The self-adhesive sheet known as skateboard griptape is applied to the top surface of your skateboard. Resembling sandpaper, it is textured to ensure a firm foothold and grip. Generally crafted from silicon carbide, skateboard griptapes usually measure 23 cm x 84 cm (9 x 33 inches), and are available as either individual sheets or in roll form.
Black griptape is the most common choice, yet brightly coloured options are gaining popularity among skateboarders. Some brands also produce transparent griptapes.
Steps to Remove Skateboard Griptape
Over time, skate griptape can become worn, especially with frequent use. Shoes and dirt can wear down the textured surface, complicating trick execution.
To take off griptape, apply hot air using a hairdryer to soften and liquefy the adhesive, making it simpler to peel away with a box knife. Any adhesive remnants can be removed by gently scraping after applying nail varnish remover or an alcohol-based cleaner. Once cleaned, a new griptape can be fitted to your deck.
Steps to Apply Griptape On a Skateboard
Fitting skate griptape is a straightforward process requiring only a few tools. Begin by peeling off the backing paper to reveal the sticky side. Carefully place the adhesive side onto the deck, ensuring centre alignment.
As you press it onto the deck, ensure all air bubbles are eliminated - many griptapes are now perforated to assist in this process. Next, trim the corners of the griptape. Define the cutout shape by pressing the edges of the tape onto the deck using a tool. Subsequently, excess griptape can be trimmed with a sharp knife. Finally, create bolt holes using a pointed tool.
