BMX Brake Parts, BMX Brake Pads & BMX Brake Cables
What Should I Understand About BMX Brakes?
Increasing numbers of freestyle riders utilise brakes to gain enhanced control during their rides. Equipping your bike with a brake not only ensures safety but also facilitates learning new tricks. Regular maintenance and occasional replacement of your BMX brake parts are vital for optimal performance.
Understanding BMX Brake Pads
BMX brake pads, often known as brake shoes or brake blocks, are essential for halting your wheels. They are a critical component of your braking system, generating the friction needed to decelerate or stop your bike.
Brake pads inevitably wear out and thus require periodic replacement. Most are compatible with any rim brake type and feature simple one-piece designs.
While most brake pads are of the threaded variety, it's important to verify if you require threaded or non-threaded versions when purchasing.
BMX Brake Cables Explained
Just like pads, BMX brake cables need replacement as they deteriorate over time. Since most BMX bikes are equipped with a sole rear U-brake, they generally feature a standard 1.5mm inner wire coupled with a full-length outer casing. BMX brake cables come in linear or helical forms. Linear cables, which are straight, are favoured by BMX enthusiasts, whereas helical cables consist of tightly wound spiral wire.
If your setup includes a Gyro brake system, you will need both upper and lower cables. Gyro cables can be easily fitted and accommodate varying lengths.
