Enhance Your BMX with Crank Components
The crankset, responsible for linking the pedals to the bicycle, is essential for propelling your BMX forward. Though it is possible to purchase a complete crankset, if you're looking to make minor tweaks or enhance your setup, buying individual components might be a more suitable option.
A crankset consists of several elements including the BMX crank arms, crank bolts, and a spindle. Crank arms, which are the levers that the pedal affixes to, significantly influence your riding experience and come in various lengths. Remember to consider your bolts, too. Having a few extras on hand is always advisable for any urgent repairs that might arise.
Understanding the Spindle on a BMX
A key component of your crankset is the spindle. Positioned in the bottom bracket, it serves as the rotating axle where the cranks connect.
BMX spindles come in different sizes, specifically 19 mm, 22 mm, and 24 mm. The 19 mm spindle diameter is perfect for ramps, trails, and urban riding. The stronger 22 mm diameter is suited to larger drops and grinding activities. The 24 mm diameter has recently gained popularity and can handle any challenge thrown at your BMX.
Bear in mind that whichever spindle size you select, it's essential that it is compatible with the rest of your crankset.
