Wakesurf Boards
Which Wakesurf Board Should I Purchase?
The choice of wakesurf board largely relies on your favoured riding style. Wakesurf boards fall into three main types: Skim shape boards, surf shape boards, and hybrid boards.
Skim Shape Boards
These boards are characterised by slim profiles and symmetrical shapes from the front to the back. The slender profile results in the board having less volume and sitting deeper in the water. This design offers excellent control and allows for swift movement response. If you're seeking a board that’s highly responsive for executing tricks, this is the ideal option.
Surf Shape Boards
Boards designed in the surf style feature thicker profiles, broad tails, and larger fins. The increased profile thickness ensures greater buoyancy, enabling the board to remain higher on the water. This type of board facilitates smooth motion across the water, with the larger tail area providing additional forward thrust. It’s the best choice for novices and those wishing for extended cruises and controlled turning on the water.
Hybrid Boards
These are a cross between the skim and surf shape boards. Should you desire more momentum on the water than a skim shape board offers, and greater agility than a surf shape board provides, then hybrids are worth considering.
What Size Wakesurf Board Should I Choose?
When purchasing a wakesurf board, the length and volume are important factors to evaluate.
Shorter wakesurf boards are typically slower and less stable compared to longer ones. They are best suited for riders with intermediate to advanced skills. Longer boards offer faster speeds, are ideal for straight-line riding, and are perfect for beginners.
The volume refers to the space within the board's shell. It dictates the board's buoyancy—the greater the volume, the more weight the board can sustain.
