Dirt Jump BMX Bikes & Dirt Jump Mountain Bikes
What Is a Dirt Jump Bike?
A dirt jump BMX is regarded as a cross between a mountain bike and a typical BMX. These bikes excel on dirt tracks and are ideal for executing high, aerial tricks. Renowned for their robustness, they are designed to withstand impacts from hard landings.
Compared to other BMX styles, dirt jump bikes are larger but smaller than dirt jump mountain bikes. Constructed from either steel or aluminium, dirt jump BMX frames ensure a solid and long-lasting build. These bikes feature wheels with diameters of 24 or 26 inches, and their standover height is lower than that of a mountain bike.
Additional features include tall handlebars for achieving greater heights and exceptionally strong yet lightweight wheels.
The Art of Dirt Jumping
Dirt jumping revolves around performing stunts while completing a lap on tracks built from soil. Riders achieve high, aerial jumps and tricks on a course featuring artificial mounds and kickers.
Riders are expected to launch from mounds, execute high, aerial jumps, and land on the mounds before progressing through the course.
Although it shares similarities with race BMX and mountain biking, it has distinct differences. Unlike race BMX or mountain biking, where the main goal is to finish the course quickly, dirt jumping prioritises performing tricks with flair. Consequently, jumps in dirt riding are larger, allowing for more ambitious stunts.
The optimal location for honing your dirt jumping skills is a pump track or other tracks equipped with various jumps, rollers (rounded bumps), and berms (banked corners). This optimises the experience with your bike.
