Freeskates
Defining Freeskates
Freeskates, also referred to as freestyle skates and urban inline skates, are adaptable inline skates designed for urban settings. They offer more robust support and endurance compared to standard fitness skates. Therefore, they incorporate a boot with a high cuff and a hard shell paired with a short frame, delivering skaters optimal ankle support and exceptional manoeuvrability for executing sharp turns.
Freeskates come with lightweight, yet strong aluminium frames, available in three-wheeled or four-wheeled configurations. Freestyle inline skates can be selected with either small or large wheels, depending on the environment where you plan to skate and your intended use.
Before purchasing a pair of freestyle skates, ensure you refer to the sizing guides as each brand manufactures their boots uniquely.
Selecting the Ideal Freeskates
The ideal pair of skates to select will depend on the environment you plan to skate in and your preferred riding style. Freeskating styles can be categorised into slalom skating and urban skating.
Slalom skating is a discipline typically performed on smooth surfaces, focusing on navigating through cones with swift turns and jumps. Slalom freeskate wheels generally measure between 80mm - 84mm in diameter, offering rapid acceleration and optimum mobility.
Urban skating suits those looking to explore the city at high speeds. In this discipline, larger wheels ranging from 90mm - 125mm are recommended. While large wheels offer less manoeuvrability, they glide smoothly over most surfaces, enabling skaters to traverse small cobblestones and grass patches.
